I'm going to take a look at a 84 Ablemarle 24 Express this weekend and would like to get a little input. I currently own a '79 formula 233 that is in need of a lot of work. I have always been partial to the Formula/Ablemarle/Bertram 24 degree hulls because of the ability to handle a decent amount of chop.(Boat on Lake Erie) This is a freshwater boat which has been hard to find.
The boat had a rerig in 1998 with a Volvo/Penta Douprop drive that currently has 785 hours. The interior was recently redone,4 sided enclosure is new, water pump is new, trim lines are new and new props. Overal the boat is in great condition. Also the trailer just has had the actuator replaced, hub seals and new shoes.
My only concern is that the price is a little steep.(20K) I realize that to duplicate this boat would be a major expense, and that's why I'm not pursuing rebuilding the Formula.
What do you think?
