Hello All,

I have an '84 Evinrude 35 which I have just finished rebuilding. I started it today for the first time and it sounds great. What a relief!! I have only put new rings and bearings in it, the pistons and bores were still good. Should I follow any particular run in procedure or will it be OK to take it out and run it as normal?
Also forgive my ignorance but what does WOT mean?

cheers
Mike

Mike wot is wide open throttle.
Just my opinion but I would run one tank of
double oil mix and dont run sustained wot
Run all kinds of speeds from trolling to wot.
I believe they reccomend retorquing the cylinder
head after runnung.
Good luck.

Mornin' Micar,

I've got to presume that since you've rebuilt, you have a manual. Assuming this is true, I have to expect that the manual suggests "Break-in" procedure for NEW or Rebuilt engine.

I expect that it will suggest doubling up on oil in premix for the first tank or two. I would also expect that it suggests not running at WOT right away, but run intermitantly at medium and low revs.

It may then suggest to retourque the head bolts after one or too "Break-in" outings.

Regardless of what I think it may say. stick around. I'm confident that somebody on this forum can give "By-the-book" recomendation for this motor.

By the way. Congrads on the successful rebuild.

What was the motivation for the rebuild? New Rings and Bearings, old pistons and bores OK? Curious.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN

yep, I have manual and read the break in procedure I would of followed this procedure anyway but just wanted other peoples experience with doing it.
The rebuild is a long story, but basically the motor was getting hard to start and running rough and someone offered me cash just for the hull it was on. I sold the hull and was left with the motor which I though I would put on my next boat but have since bought something slightly bigger so I'm going to sell the 35. I'm lucky that I have a mate who runs a boat shop so the parts I bought for the motor cost me fraction of what they might of...I have also found out the HUGE mark up that there is on ob parts!!!

cheers
Mike
