This problem only happens a couple times a day while out on the water. I will get almost on plane and the engine will seem like it just doesn't have any power and will seem like it wants to stall but doesn't. Then I get the wave of water over the back when I come back into starting position. Then I have to rev the engine and sometimes go back and squeeze the primer bulb and it will be soft. I have already replaced all the fuel lines, primer, bulb, fuel filter, fuel pump is working fine, and decarbed the engine twice ( which really seems to help for a short time). What else can I do??? It has really got me frustrated..... HELP!!!!!!!!

You said that the fuel pump is working OK. Does the motor pick back up for a moment when you pump the fuel bulb? If so your fuel pump is suspect. Remove the airbox and stick 2 fingers in each of the carb throats while it is acting up, does it pick up a little? If so that carb is running lean and probably needs a rebuild. Your symtoms sound like fuel starvation somewhere in the system you just need to pin it down a little. It sounds like your idle circuits are OK but you may have some crud in the main jets.

Re: 84' evinrude won't get on plane

The carbs were rebuilt about 6 months ago. I was told that it sounded like the engine was not getting enough fuel. But once I do squeeze the primer bulb it will be fine. I will get on plane and run fine. I was also told that maybe a cyclinder wasn't firing properly and that could cause the same thing. All plugs and the 6 coils to the spark plugs are new and 1 power pak is new. I was going replace the other but a boat shop said it didn't sound like that was my problem. A leak in the fule lines are out of the question because I replaced them all. So what else???????

Have you checked the plugs?

It may be possible that a cylinder is on the way out and intermitently missing under load.

Does it sound like one is missing during these power losses?
