We just took my father-in-laws boat to the lake today. we have had problems starting the motor, but we thought we fixed it and had the motor running well. Once we launched the boat we had problems. It would idle and start well but when giving it throttle it would stall and die or it wouldn't run over 10 mph at full throttle. We took the cover off at the dock and used B-12 in the carbs and left the dock again without the cover. it hesitated and then throttled up good. we ran it for about two and a half miles and returned to the dock to get the kids and wife. We killed the motor and put the cover back on loaded the five of us and left the dock. just past the no wake zone we throttled it up and it died once again and the problem repeated itself. My father-in-law just turned it around and we idled back to the loading ramp and went home. Does any one have any suggestions on what to do first? We would like to fix the problem ourselves and really can't afford a mechanic right now.
Thank you.

Hi k2benton

It sounds like its getting too little fuel.

Is the line from tank bent or squesed anywhere ?

Is the tankvent open. Are all connections tight and not leaking ? If there is a leak somewhere fuel pump will suck in air, instead of fuel. As the motor can catch up some time points against difficulties pumping fuel up to carbs. If there is a primer bulb, will the problem cure when bulb is squezed ? Be aware running it this way, in a lean condition, can cause serious harm to the cylinders/pistons and even be cause of need for a rebuild ! At last - does it overheat ? Try to hold a hand on heads when it has ran for somtime. You should be able to touch the heads fro 5 seconds, without burning hand.
