Finally got the thing mounted to the boat and seemingly no matter what I do the throttle cable seems cocked and it's hard to move from the remote. I tried to take pics to show it but it's really hard to show from any angle. The guide that's attached to the carb cover just doesn't seem to point the cable directly towards the throttle linkage. I don't see how it could've bent, it would've broken before being bent as much as it seems like it is.

I don't have the two reversed. The shift cable points right through the guide no problem. Is this one of those simple things that I'm going to knock myself in the head about once someone points it out?

Well I feel a little stupid but I still think something's off. I was shifting forward and reverse (with engine off) but the lower unit wasn't actually going into forward and was binding. Slightly rotated the flywheel and could go to and fro with what I think is a acceptable level of effort.

The cockeyed alignment does remain, but maybe it won't be a problem...

I would switch the cables !-------Shift cable in the bottom.-----Throttle in the top.-------And engine should be running or propeller should be turned when shifting this motor.

Thanks racerone, switching cables makes the alignment impossible, but the problem was that I was trying to shift back and forth with the engine off. Doh.
