Hey guys. 2 years ago I bought this boat. She runs like a sewing machine. Anyways the rear of the deck is rotted out and I'm really thinking about redecking it. So my question is what type of quality are these boats from this era. Are the stringers all fiberglassed in good and etc. So I know you usually end up replacing stringers transom and the whole deal. Just wondering if you ever get lucky and can just replace the deck.

no, you wont get lucky and just replace the deck.

you will need to replace the stringers, bulkheads and transom as well as the deck

you have a 33 year old boat that has outlived its 15 year design life twice.

Boat restoration is a 12 step process, the first process is denial, which is the step your still in

here is a sticky with lots of good information. http://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat...r/295740-how-to-s-and-other-great-information

Uhmmm It all depends on how she was maintained and cared for. More than likely she has some issues with the transom and stringers but...before you just rip it all out, I'd do some exploratory drilling into the transom, stringers, motor mounts etc. and see what comes out. If she spent all her life in a Barn then she could be solid. but...The soft deck is usually a Dead Giveaway to major problems below. Do some exploration and report back.;)
