'84 Merc 150 V6 Black Max...picked up as a fresh rebuild in 2007, by a mechanic (NOT a boat or motor shop).
Ran flawlessly for the 2 seasons I used it, but has been sitting unused and outdoors on the boat for the past 3 seasons.

Winterized with antifreeze, stabil and fogged at that time, 3 yrs ago, but hasn't been turned or started since.

Only problem at the time was the power tilt, which was slowly leaking fluid at the engine hose connections...it slowly getting harder to lift engine until it wouldn't lift anymore...pump sounded fine, but low or no fluid.

What should be done to make sure I resurrect it safely to avoid damage after sitting so long?
But I also want to be realistic, with anyone's input if this engine is a potential money pit waiting to happen w/ reliability concerns due to it's vintage.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

They are all money pits. Some more than others though :). Seriously though, I would pick up a manual first. Change the impeller whether it needs it or not. It's hard to know exactly what shape it's in but a compression check may be a good idea. Then wait for those who know more than me to tell you what to do next. It may last 10 more years or six months. Just take care of it and drive it till it breaks.
