My motor kept dying on my last weekend at the lake when I would run at top speed. It didn't chug like it was out of gas it just suddenly lost power. It would start again and run like a top then die again. Back at home on the muffs I noticed the tach is not working. Could it be that there's a short in the main power somewhere and when it shorts it's killing my motor and blowing my rectifier? Thanks for any help guys!

Follow the troubleshooting guide found on line by Rapair/CDI. If the tach fails, generally that is a sign of a bad regulator/rectifier, that can affect the ignition system. Disconnect and tape off the yellow wires from the stator to the rectifier and retest.

This is spelled out very well in the CDI Guide.
