I'm trying to replace the bearings on the crank.
I can't get the upper bearing out.

I've got a steel pipe that *just* fits inside the seat where the bearing is.
I've hit it multiple times with a sledge hammer (not *too* hard).

It absolutely will not budge.
How can I get that bearing out.

Typically if you use heat from a propane torch they fall out of that housing.

Put it on a empty coffee can in oven at 350 degrees. it will fall right out. To reinstall heat housing and put earing in freezer and they will fall together after 45 minutes..

Thanks - but I don't wear earings!!)

OK, heat and then freeze.
I've got MapPro gas; hope that'll do it.
Thanks.

Aluminum expands at twice the rate of steel.------------Aluminum is 0.000012" / inch / per degree F if memory serves me right.-------So when heating the aluminum bore gets loose and the bearing falls out.--------When assembling you heat the bearing housing. ---You cool the bearing and the two can be assembled without using a hammer.

Oh *b*earings - now I got it! lol

Your suggestions worked.
It took about a half hour in the oven @ 350 and I had to bang it out but it wasn't too bad.

I froze the new bearing and reheated the casing. The bearing dropped right in.
It's in there tight as can be now.

Thanks!!
