I'm to a point where I'm putting new pistons, pins & needle bearings on the existing connecting rods.

I notice discoloration (dark blue/purple) from heat on one of the rods.
That's not a problem is it?

I've seen vids where they applied heat to the rod before installing the pin & bearings.
This is a nice vid. He uses 'needle bearing assembly grease' and no heat.
Can I use marine grease or white lithium grease for this job?

What's the best way to do this job?

No heat on connecting rods for an outboard.--------Warm the piston on some depending on the fit of the wrist pin.--------There must be a reason for assembly grease.-------It disappears quickly on start-up and washes away.

Is this on tha wrist pin end? Tha one that had tha problem? Either end tha rod needs ta be replaced. Tha new wrist pin, piston tha wrist pin should slide in with little pressure with a lite coat of 2 stroke oil on it. Both at room temp. Like said. no heat on either when ya puttin' it all back together..............jmo

I got all the new pistons, needle bearings, pins, etc. on the connecting rods.

No heat.
I did use lithium grease instead of assembly grease; just had it on hand.
I just cleaned it up with mineral spirits to break the grease up after assembly.

The action on the piston wrists is smooth & clean on all of them.
Thanks!
