84 merc 50hp problems

i run the engine with the flusher on and i can shift into gear and rev it up and it itdles great, but as soon as i stick it in the water it will idle great but then i shift it into gear and it dies every time even in reverse. dont know what is wrong and people i have talked to do not know what to think.

check compression, fire and fuel, , if all good, sounds possibly like an idle adjustment, or timing issue, do you have a service manual, if not might want to consider on buying one, <br />post your compression readings and spark and we'll shoot some more information at ya<br /><br />good luck
