84 searay/350 vortec mercruiser

Ok, I finally got a timing light and set my timing to 8* btdc per specs. But lost 300 rpm's on top end. I had set it by ear originally and I guess i had it a little more advanced. does this mean my distributer is not advance properly?

And,......
Now you're not Burning the tops off your pistons...........

Stick to the Specs,......... It'll Last alot Longer..................
