I'm not sure this post should be in this category, but I figured I'd start here. Here's the deal - I'm looking at this 84 Wellcraft bowrider to buy. It has a 350 Merc, and an outdrive I'm not really familiar with - It doesn't look like the usual Alpha I'm used to. I have a 78' Century currently and the hull just seems different than this one. When I bang on the hull of my Century, it is nice and solid - but when I bang on the hull of the Wellcraft it seems to flex in. Is this normal? Now, the 350 Merc - is it a good motor? What should I be looking out for? It's an 8 so I'm sure it's bad on gas... but I'd like good power and what not. The interior is not great, and it will need some shift cables / controls to get it back up. Lastly - the outdrive, which doesn't look like a mercruiser drive to me - the guy said it was stuck in gear. I tried to turn it as I'm used to the Alpha drives turning one way but locking the other, well this one was locked in both directions, with a little bit of play going from left to right.
I'm familiar with old boats, and I/O's but I'm lost when it comes to this one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
