I was told that I could take the carbs off my dead 100hp motor and put them on a 85hp... It would convert the 85 to 100hp.. is this true?

So what happens to the 85hp with the 100hp carbs on it. I was told the powerhead was the same and as well as the gears. The only difference was the carbs, was told by a marine tech also.

What year are the motors you're swapping parts on?

Re: 85-100hp carb switch

So I take it not many people have heard of this?

We've done it a lot but there's way more to it than simply swapping carbs. Especially with the small port 85's. The 85s can be ported to the 115/140 style ports.

An awful lot depends on what hull you have and how it responds to small increases in torque and propeller rpm. If your set up is at about 5500 now, just sticking bigger carbs on may only result in burning more fuel with less performance.

The specification sheets are identical for the crankcases.

Are the carburetors the same? I can't see them from here. The only difference in the spec sheet is the 100HP high speed orifice is a 50C compared to 48C on the 85HP.
