The tell-tale stream tells you only that the water pump is functional; it tells you nothing about the flow of water through the cooling passages of the engine controlled by the thermostats.

The tell tale will also tell you nothing about the condition of the water pump.

When a constant alarm sounds, it is a signal to shut the engine down immediately and find the problem.

The engine has already overheated, so at a minimum, good shop practice demands a water pump inspection, a thermostat inspection, new head gaskets, and water deflector inspection.

The warning horn sounds when one head gets to 212 degrees, which is hot. The horn shuts off at 175 degrees. Normal operating temps are 145-150 at idle, lower when at planing speeds. You have a critical problem. I'd get a laser temp gun and take temp readings on both heads when the horn sounds. A remote possiblity that the head sensor is bad, but you need to know the operating head temps and go from there. You could have ingested weeds or sand in the cooling system, causing restrictions.

you could also have a worn impeller that can not keep up at high speeds. tstat not opening. i believe that motor has 2 stats one for each side.

Well I could not get the buzzer to sound with just the water hose on engine.Put temp gun on it and standing at rear the right side was 140* and the left side was 135*. while doing that i seen water leaking from the plate in the center of the cylinder heads The one where the **** hose comes from..can someone tell me what that is... I dont have a manual for the engine.

The inner plate covers the exhaust passage. There's a water jacket between the inner plate and the outer.

ok I can fix this myself but I have no manual. Is there a website that might have the breakdown that I could print out? Tired of paying someone to do the work and then something else is wrong...I am going to order a manual but would like to get this repaired as soon as possible.. Are the temp senders part of the head?

You should be able to tackle this job. There are complete parts diagrams for your engine on the internet that will help you understand how the parts go together on your engine. It is: epc.brp.com. The exhaust cover is relatively easily removed, since you have a flatback engine. Just unscrew all the many screws and carefully pry the covers off. Your will need two 317914 exhaust gaskets. Clean the surfaces and apply gasket sealer-reinstall. No big deal. I would carefully inspect the inner cover. Look for any casting flaws, or holes (porosity) that may leak water direct into the exhaust cavity. Not likely, but check anyway. The temp senders nest in each head. To remove them you must take off the head (water jacket) covers. (You do not need to take the head off.) You will need a new head cover gasket for each head if you do.

I'd do the impeller, t-stats and the exhaust gasket before diving into the senders. Those senders are around $50 each new and rarely need replacement.

I wouldn't overlook the head gaskets and / or the deflectors either.

Re: 85' 115 evinrude

I have ordered all the parts minus the senders have a manual coming too. Will post the results when done.

Thanks for all the help fellas...
