I have an oil system on my 40 with the remote tank being under the console. I noticed that the wires were cut on the tank leading to the motor, so I'm sure if I had an oil problem the alarm wouldn't sound and the rest would be history. Can anyone tell me how to bypass the system and pre-mix. Is this oil system on the 85 40hp reliable or prone to failer?
CU

----------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

Is there a sensor on my vro pump that will triger an alarm if oil stops pumping into it. I think the two wires from the remote tank are for the sensor in that tank. If there is a oil warning sensor I may not disconnect. Just want to be safe not sorry.
CU

------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

If that's an original VRO, I'd reluctantly say go ahead and clip it. The originals were problematic. Replacements have been very reliable. If it's been replaced, just fix the wires on the tank. They're only there to let you know if the oil is getting low. Nobody on this board will use a whole tank of oil in one single season, or at least very few of us will. Top it off on occasion and worry about something worth worrying about. :)

Is there any way to tell if it's a new vro or the old? I just bought the boat recently. Thanks for your responses.
CU

------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

Pump usually says "VRO2" on the newer ones. The upgraded system was introduced in 1986. Here is a link to an earlier thread with some ideas:

VRO

I saw on top of the pump V2. I asume this means the same as vro2. Any ideas? Thank you for your responses.
CU

------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

^ Sorry to keep putting this at the top. I'm hopeing to get a response before I decide to strip out the vro pump. If it's the newer pump I will keep it.
CU

----------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!
