I just fired up my Johnson tiller after it sitting for about 6 months. It started right up and idled perfectly. I decided to do some trolling with it yesterday and it was running fine for about an hour then it started bogging (running on one cylinder?). Eventually it stopped altogether and wouldn't start. I believe it flooded. Any ideas what caused this after it ran and idled fine for about an hour?

On the good side I did manage to catch a six lb walleye! :D

BTW: I live on a lake and the boat has been in the water for about two months, motor down.
Thanks,
Tomo

Start with the basic checks, compression, fuel, ignition.

Re: '85 40hp Johnson problem

I had a similar problem with my Johnson 48hp last week on the lake. My first time out with it. Yours probably isn't this but turns out that I had a hairline crack in the fuel line that's inside the tank. It started sucking in air. Yours might have the same problem. Probably not but if you want to check, unscrew the fuel line from the tank and pull it out and inspect it. You might get lucky! Maybe you used enough fuel to where the crack was exposed. What I did as a temp fix to get back was to tilt the tank on it's back so that the who fuel tube was submerged in gas. Even the cracked line got gas.
Ran fine. Now I have to figure out a way to fix it!

:)
