Hi folks,
I have a 1985 70 hp that I just bought. It starts and runs, revs up well in neutral. When i put it in gear it'll idle, but when I try to accelerate, it dies! It does this while in the water, but didn't do this while out of the water.
Any ideas of what's wrong?

Thanks,
Jim

It was also very hard to get started, but this may be because I didn't use the primer correctly at first.

You'll need to try to get some more info on your problem to help folks help you diagnose the problem. Assuming you have adequate compression and spark, from what you describe in your first 2 posts I'm thinking you have a fuel problem. I'd start with the most usual culprit, the fuel system. Take the carbs off and disassemble them and THOROUGHLY clean them out. Make sure ALL of the fuel lines are in good condition with no cracks, cuts, or internal obstructions. Thats external and internal fuel lines. I'm no expert like a lot of these guys, but in my personal experience lots of problems with Johnnyrudes not running well end up being in the fuel system.

Good luck, I hope you get it going soon!

I'd say fuel--ethanol poisoning and/or water in the fuel. Possible bad bulb, too.
Test with a clean 6 gallon portable tank w/ new gas, run on a different fuel line.

Do you have a fuel/water seperator? change it. if not, get one!
