Ok so I was getting fire on the top two plugs. The terminal block was broke and wires were not buy diagram on block. Got a new (used) terminal block correctly connected wire going buy what's on the block diagram. Now engine still runs the same but I can pull the top and bottom plug wires off and it doesn't change anything. I'm really new to this any help would be appreciated. Also I changed the #2and#3 coil packs and still no change. I checked all connection under flywheel all seem well

If I pull the middle plug off it kills the moter. I'm at a total lost not sure we're to go from here

Ok I have a 1989 85hp force. I'm in the process of fixing my bad wiring issue. The diagram shows six wires come from the trigger connecting to the wiring block. Mine only have three and a ground to the engine. Can't get it to fire on all cylinders although it does run but top and bottom cylinder not firing at all

Please pics of your wires and terminal block would help.
I assume that you have the Prestolite ignition system, not the Thunderbolt system. Brunnswick started to put Mercury parts to the Force in early 90.es.
The ignition system was one of the first parts.
Prestolite system has 2 wires for each trigger coil, Thunderbolt has one common (minus or ground) and one wire for each trigger coil.

The 3 wire is an aftermarket trigger from CDI
outboardignitiondotcom has the tests procedures and how to wire the new trigger.
Your problem sounds like a pack problem or a stator?? Go to Outboard Ignition and do the tests.
The basic tests can be done with a simple analog meter, the more complicated needs a DVA or Peak Reading Volt Meter.
You can get a DVA adaptor to make your meter work for the more complicated tests.

Only thing that really confused me was that I was getting fire on both top cylinders and replaced the terminal block and wired it the way it shows on moter and now only middle one firing
