Bought my boat two years ago . Tried to fire up thr motor and didnt see any water coming out. Dropped the lower und unit checked the impeller that looked good but am going to replace it today. If this dosnt solve the problem i'll put in a new thermstat.

From what ive read this engine doesnt have a pee hole so is it possible that no water will be visible coming out untill the thermostat opens ? When I had the lower unit off I flushed all the water tubes and there didnt appear to have any obstructions. Im really not familiar with this enging so hopefully with the same enginge could let me know what the deal is.

The only "telltale" it has is the exhaust. It will sputter water out of the exaust as if you told it a bad joke while it's mouth was full.
It doesn't eject a stream of water, but a mist.

Re: 85 Force 50 hp cooling question

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the quick response.. Changed out the impeller.. Old one looked good but wasnt.. New one worked and started pumping water right away yee haaa...

Did alittle searching and some guys had pulled the plug on top of the thermostat housing and put in a 1/4 " barbed fitting ran a hose through the
cowling with a small piece of copper tubing bent 90 degrees to direct the spray so you could see it... Works great.. Thanks for the help:D

Re: 85 Force 50 hp cooling question

I just want to confirm what I am reading. I just bought a boat with an 87 Force 50 which appears to have very little use. Upon starting the motor with the bottom immersed, I would see a heavy mist being emitted from the two pee holes. Is this the normal state of operation of this motor? It is not equipped with a temp gauge so I would not know if it was overheating.
