Re: 85 force question

Answer-one; Not likely, but you may need to dismantle it to repair,re-adjust, or lube it. These binacles are a pain in the ice to werk on, so do not attempt this without the manual handy, and you are somewhat mecahnically inclined. They're a good design, but it's like werkin on a large watch.

Answer-two;Those holes are there to allow the lower leg (not watertight) to drain. Some oil is normal, but large amounts of oil, or grey water/oil mix may indicate a bad seal in the lower unit or gimbal. To check, drain/inspect lower unit lube. If contaminated, you'll know where to procede.

Re: 85 force question

I have an 86 Bayliner Capri and had to replace the control box. The original was a Morse MNS that you pulled out to get into neutral. I replaced it with a used Morse SL-3 that I bought for $100 from Great Lakes Skipper. I didn't have to do any adjustments either. I also called Morse and the faxed me the installation manual which helped a lot.
