A little background info. The motor is a 1988, the gas tank recently filled with water, got bogged in the lake, the engine did not submerge but with the tank being completely full i'm sure some water made its way into the engine. Anyway that was about two weeks ago, since then i've cleaned the carbs and all fuel lines, filter, siphoned all gas, added new gas, etc. The boat will crank up and idle for a few minutes and then die out. Choke it and it cranks back up, idles, and dies out(sometimes with a pop or two). If I don't choke it the engine won't turn over. Once it is in idle if I put it in gear it tries to get going but then dies out again. It is my guess that there is not enough gas making its way into the engine since I have to choke it everytime to start. Any ideas as to where to look next? Everything from tank to carbs(3) have been taken off, checked, cleaned, and replaced along with any lines coming/going from the carbs and fuel separator.

The bulb stays full whenever I crank it and it idles for a minute or two by the way.

did you check the feul pump yet??..

id disconnect the feul "out" line..and see what kind of pressure the gas is coming out at while cranking the engine...

take the spark wires off so she doeant start...this is merely a test o see if your feul pump got damaged...you should get good gushes of gas

Did you lync n sync after reinstalling the carbs? Fuel air adjustment out 1 1/4 turns from lightly seated? What is your idle rpm at in forward gear and neutral?

Well I got it running in the driveway today after messing around with the idle mixture screw. Took it for a water test, started doing the same thing, messed around with the idle mixture screw some more and it finally started acting normal. Nuetral rpm is 0;forward is approx 400 rpm, 3/4 speed rpm was 4000, wot rmp = 5500...Once it finally started acting like normal it seemed to be quieter than I remember. This is a pretty loud engine and you sit pretty close to it on a 16' boat, plus the cover doesn't have any type of insulation to drown the sound(gonna work on that soon). I'm going to take it out again probly Monday or Tuesday since this weekend the ramps are out of control on Lake Hartwell, SC. Hopefully she will run like normal and not revert back to her old ways.

Glad you got er running. Wot rpm is good, but nuetral rpm should be around 1000-1100, and 700-800 in forward gear. Make sure the mixture adjutment is no less than 1 turn out. I took the insulation out of mine too cause it as falling apart and I was worried about it getting sucked into the carbs. Contemplating replacing it cause it is real loud like you said.

Rscardina, I'm in the hideout on roamingwood lake and it is absolute madness today. Got out for a bit early this morning before the crowds and plan on doin the same tomorrow. Have a great weekend and happy fourth. Enjoy wallenpaupack, it's a nice little puddle!:)
