Hello All,
I have an 85hp Chysler Charger that has burned out it's 2nd choke solenoind (too hot to touch).
Does it require a ballast resistor like old automotive coils OR just bad luck w\ the used solenoid I installed OR incorrectly wired?
Thank you agian for your help

Re: 85 HP Chysler Charger choke solenoid burnout

Choke solenoids are momentary use and energised only during starting. They should be wired to the "C" terminal of the ignition switch. This terminal is PUSH -to-choke. You push in the key while starting. When you stop pushing the choke solenoid de-energises. Choke solenoid is the green wire.

If you have a separate switch for the choke and it is not momentary contact, if you forget to de-energise you will burn out the choke.
