Hello all
i just picked up a tilt assembly since my boat didnt come with one i am mechanically inclined but dont know much ABOUT BOATS THE UNIT IS NOW INSTALLED ALL I NEED TO DDO IS WIRE IT WITH THREE WIRES WHICH I ASSUME ARE POWER TO THE SWITCH AND GROUND ALSO THE OIL WAS EMPTY UPON RECEIPT OF THE UNIT, MY ? IS IS THERE ANY SPECIAL WIRING OR RELAYS ,FUSES ETC... THAT SHOULD BE INSTALLED WITH IT OR CAN I GO DIRECT FROM THE BATTERY ALSO HOW DO I FILL IT WITH OIL AND WHAT TYPE OF OIL IS THERE A SPOT WHERE I HAVE TO BLEED IT FROM THE UNIT CAME OFF OF A FORCE ENGINE AS WELL ANY AND ALL ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IF ANY ONE HAS A DIAGRAM, SCEMATIC THAT THEY CAN SEND IT WOULD GRETALY BE APPRECIATED THANK U ALL IN ADVANCE..

P.S. I HAVE AN OUT BARD FORCE 85HP MOTOR

Re: 85 hp force power tilt assembly

There are two ways to wire a three wire tilt motor. The factory way, and my way.

Factory way, Assuming you have the factory cable. If not, use #10 gauge wire. Black wire goes to good ground either on the engine or on the battery. At the dash use a single pole double throw MOM switch. You can find one at Radio Shack. Center terminal is power in. Use 10 gauge directly from battery with a 30 amp circuit breaker (not on factory cable).

Top terminal is down. Attach green wire. Bottom terminal is up. Attach blue wire.

The problem with this wiring is that full power is run to the dash and the switch must handle 20-30 amps--not the best design.

MY WAY: Find a couple of five pole relays either stock or salvaged from an auto junkyard. If salvaged from junkyard, get extras with wiring attached and switch wires so the heavy gauge wire are all on the power inputs and outputs of the relays. The relays have a schematic printed on them to show signal and power circuits. Now, again, black wire is ground to battery. Do not use the power grounds for the relays. attach the switch as above to the signal wires of the relays and attach signal grounds to the engine block ground. Take power in to both relays from the battery side of the starter solenoid and connect power out to the respective motor leads. Now, only signal power is going to the dash and switch so you can use much smaller gauge wire--18

Sounds complicated, but is really simple.

Re: 85 hp force power tilt assembly

thank u for the advice Frank.. i powered it up directly to the battery just to test, and found that it would spark alot at the battery and only move a bit, and then stop. the motor casing got really hot. so now i think the motor is probably bad.. does any one of wher i can get a rebuild kit or brushes for this motor? or do i have no other choice but to drop 200+ dollars on a new one.
