85 hp merc. carb.

Hi. On my 1976 merc. 85hp there's a knob on the front but it's not hooked up to anything. I took the front plate off and there's nothing there. Does it have a different carb? The choke flap in front is spring loaded shut? There's a choke lever on top but it dosen't affect the spring loaded flap?

Hi Arnyp,
Don't know what knob you are refering to on the front. The 1976 850 does not utilize a choke "flap", but rather an enrichment valve on each carb. What you are looking at is the throttle plate, it will not move when you pull the choke knob , but you should see the choke rod activate the enrichment valves on the right side of each carb. Post a pic of the knob you are refering to, I'm sure someone will tell you what it is.
