'85 J235 Head Cleaning Question

I recently discovered a MAJOR water blockage inside the port side head and head cover gasket area. I've pulled the head and head cover off the engine and have proceeded to clean away the gunk. My question is, before reassembling, is there any value or harm for that matter to having the heads and head cover sandblasted?

the sand will buld up in the head take a big pot with water and vinegar and heat it up the vinegar take the salt buldup off the head

thanks- I've got the new gaskets arriving tomorrow, so I'll give this a try.
