what would be the cause of plugs wet and dirty on the #1 bank? All three plugs on that side are dark, wet, and oily. Plugs on the opposite bank look just right. Ignition? Recirc? Any help would be awesome, thanks, John

John.... Check the stator under the flywheel. If it is cracked and/or leaking a sticky looking substance down on the timer base and powerhead, replace it.

That engine has dual powerpacks. The stator is a two fold purpose component, delivering voltage for battery charging and also providing voltage to energize the powerpacks. A stator in the above mentioned condition would result in a voltage drop to at least one of the the powerpacks resulting in weak, erratic, and eventually no ignition.

This may not be your problem BUT it is the most likely. Let us know what you find.

You may have a bad power pack. The twin power packs are setup for each to fire all plugs on one side of the block. Since they are the same, you can swap them. If the problem situation moves to the other head when you swap the packs, you have a bad pack-replace it.

You may be running cold on that side, so be sure to service the thermostats.
