The above motor (tiller model) doesn't seem to have any mechanism to keep it locked in a tilted up position, and I don't know how I'll launch the boat at shallower ramps. Is something broken, am I just a moron or is it not designed to remain in that position? I just got the motor from a guy who hadn't owned it long or used it much, and he didn't know either. Thanks.

Those ones (if I remember right) have a little black knob like thing on the left side down beside the transom mount (that's looking back at it from the boat.. that'll be the starboard side).

Will have a picture of engine down on one side (when flipped back I think, and pict of engine tilted when flipped forward.

Flip the knob to tilt (knob stays there on it's own), then tilt motor all the way up. Should hear a click as the latch engages. Motor should stay tilted. To lower, flip knob to "down" picture, then pull motor up to release latch, then lower.

Don't have a clue about your particular motor (although BF seems to be pretty familiar with it!), but ..... if you need to keep it tilted while you launch, you could likely put a piece of wood in the bracket while tilted to keep it in that position for a few minutes while you launch. Just a thought.

Good luck!
