I have an 85 20ft kayot trihull deckboat with 305 v8. The shifter will not let me disengage shifter cables to give throttle when starting. people I talk to say there should be a button or shifter should pull out to operate throttle cable only but cannot figure it out. Only thing it has is button underneath handle to be able to engage forward and reverse with throttle. Did these boats come this way? Have to unhook throttle cable at carb and have someone else crank it so i can operate carb by hand for first startup then it's fine all day. I believe it's original stock setup. throttle lets me pump it to get gas primed but has to be in neutral when starting and that's the problem. If it would let me give any amount of throttle when starting for first time of day then wouldn't have this problem.
