Finally getting to THE project (only my 2nd boat motor). My Wife's 1985 Merc 25XD dropped a cyl1nder. Top of the piston is blown off & cylinder is heavily SCORED. While at WOT on fairley rough water, prop on toon boat grabbed some air, motor raced. The wrest is..... THE project!<br /><br />1. Found a used shortblock and have installed. Before I try to kick it over, any tips or suggestions on librication, timing, anything at all?<br />2. Would like to rework original block but understand that the chrome lined cylinders do not take to boaring/heavy honing. As well, Merc doesn't make an oversize piston (seemingly because of the chrome cylinder thing). Any suggestions on re-sleeving? Can any machine shop handle this? Where does one get a Chromed sleeve? How do you size it? etc.
