85 merc 60 HP stalls when put in gear

Have a 85 60 HP that runs great. Starts right up, when I get in gear runs smooth and no issues. Problem is when its in the water and I put in gear it stalls out. This just started on last trip out fishing. Not sure of history as to when was last tuned, replaced power pack in the spring. Ran out old gas in spurts and now have all new fuel in tank. Any suggestions as where to start or if I should just take to service center and throw $$ at it.

I have an '07 Merc 50 HP, about 4 years ago it started doing that, I ended up rebuilding the fuel pump. If you go that route, make sure you get the Mercury kit.

Open slow speed mixture needles 1/4 turn and see what happens.
