ok, first time ever I installed an impeller kit on my stern drive (new to boats). I thought I did everything fine, but the engine has been overheating when I've been tuning it in the driveway. So, I pulled the hose off the transom fitting for where the outside water should be pumped in. I ran the engine, revved it even, and not a drop came in.

So, when I pull off the lower unit and open the impeller section, what kind of common mistake or noticeable problem should I look for??

Thanks,
David

ps- obviously I should go ahead and buy another kit- it's not recommended to try to reuse the same kit even though it has less than 15 mins on it?? is it??

Did you have the copper tube in the correct spot? The 3 inch long plastic guide tube is to help guide the copper tube into place. If you missed getting the copper tube in the right spot, the impeller will be fine. Just reinstall the lower. You could also have the water pump gaskets in the wrong spot. If that is the case the impeller will most likely be shot.
Good luck,
justin@sterndrive.cc
www.sterndrive.cc
