I have a 1985 Starcraft FM160. I am in the process of replacing my transom and have a question about the side bolts on the transom. I have removed everything except for the side bolts. I have foam flotation in the corners behind the corner plates. I am assuming I can just trim the top back corners of the flotation to gain access to the inside near the sides. Can someone tell me is this the correct to approach this or is there a better way? Any help will be appreciated.

Hey Nite Fisherman, post some pics of the rear of the boat. I think alot of guys here could help you with suggestions if they saw the layout of how the transom is in there.

Good luck

Rex--

that might work. once you get at back side, you'll need a friend to turn screws while you hold a wrench on inside. i found my bolts all looked as though end had been peened by factory and they were major misery to get em out. i finally resorted to a cutting wheel to cut heads off, as have many others, although i didn't think to ask til after i'd had many hours of misery......you can do it without much scarring of hull if you use a die grinder and are careful
