HI guys, I'm sorry if this is redundant, but I just bought my first boat, a 1985 Winner 17' with 4.3L OMC Cobra I/O. I bought this particular boat because it was the most pristine I could find in my price range. It appeared to be exactly the way it came from the factory and was an original One-Owner Boat.
On my boat, it was weird. It ran fine for about 4 trips to the lake since I bought it, then the last time I ran it for about 3 hours fine and then the power deteriorated and I realized that I was giving it full throttle and only getting 2200 RPM and NO power,,, then it literally just died? wouldn't start for about 20 minutes.. then it started and ran poorly and I puttered it up to put it on the trailer. So I did some research and what I read online that it may be the fuel filters. I changed those and took it back out night before last. It started fine, even revved fine in neutral. I backed it out and put it on the lake and on the first time I gave it any gas while it was in gear it sounded like a seizing sound and then died. Then this time it still wouldn't start after an hour of being stranded. had to be towed in.
Checked the battery and have good charge
The boat had what I thought was an exceptional amount of water in it when I pulled the plug after getting it out of the water. It also would not trim up to get on top of the water since it didn't have enough power and the rear of the boat was pretty low in the water and the bow was high. Could this be an electrical issue.. perhaps a kill switch somehow??
Thx so much for help.

Guys, I just went out and replaced the battery and the battery terminals. The battery was dead and terminals were corroded. I thought it couldn't hurt. Well that restored power to the boat (lights came on), but when I turned the key over all I got was a CLICK and a whine.. then I lost all power to the boat. Even on a brand new battery. I checked the connections and realized the red power cable was HOT. and then the lights came back on the boat when I moved them. Also I noticed the battery cables themselves seemed corroded when I crimped the new heads on, (blue / green dust in the cable.) Could this be my problem? bad battery cables?? Would a bad battery cable cause the starter to click but not start the motor? Thx guys

Well according to a friend i may have had a bad battery connection or cable. So I replaced both + and the - cables... and charged the battery overnight. When I turned the key to on. I had Lights and power, (good sign). and then when I turned the key over I got a WHUMP, WHUMP, .... Whump...........whump.. but no start. Then I got Click and Whine...
Tried again and got a few more whump attempts at the starter but then the boat died and I had no power again....
Any ideas now?? Bad Starter or Solenoid??
Thx for any help
