Ok guys havent been on in a while...but i got me an issue i hope you guy can figure out.... ok so i have an 88 bayliner with the force 85 on it.last time we had it out worked fine... slight spit and sputter on the way in but nothing bad. Sat for 3 month and we took it out again this weekend /..... no power almost dies at wot, and it will idle then a sparatic hard miss that will shake the engine.
The engine will try to recover the miss happens again? I don?t understand what happened. I took the carbs down thoroughly cleaned and reassembled the carbs and reinstalled. No change. New plugs no change.
So that leaves me with electrical issues?.. stator or cdi box?
ok so I read the book (clymer)and got more confused than I was before reading it?
Can someone ?dumb? down how to check stator and cdi for dead electronics? And where can I get parts cheaper?

You need to start with the basics... Compression, Spark, then fuel delivery. What you described sounds like fuel or fire to me, but check the compression first. Search the older threads on the procedures for doing these checks, and like mauiboy stated, do a link and sync also.

I'm having a similar problem with my 89 force 125. It was stalling at WOT and runs a little rough sometimes at 1/2 throttle. I pulled the fuel pump and found a small rupture in the pump diaphragm. Parts should be in soon...we'll see

"Slight spit and sputter" leads me to agree with quistia. An old diaphram can rupture unexlicably, just ask the mother of my daughter.

lol foodfisher...hilarious!
ok so i figured out my issue! i had thought that since it sounded ike a dead miss it would have been and electonic isue... but no sir it wasnt it is two things actually....
one, the screw retainer clip (on the bottom carb)that the butterfly linkage attaches to, to operate the linkage rod for the other two carbs is stripped. the screw will almost tighten but not enough, I tried to do a link and sync and had everythig working fine but as soon as i moved the throttle i noticed that the linkage slipped. so that is my first issue... think im just gonna get a ss locknut and bit longer screw and go that route.
ok second thing is i noticed alo of fuel n the inside of the engine bay.. i noticed that when runnung, the lower carb is leaking fuel out of the "jet" weephole(?) on the passener side about mid carb. after looking into that i believe it is acting like a overflow bleedoff instead of airjet. so its time for new floats and carb rebuilds!!!!!
So anyone have a sugestion on where to score 3 carb kits and 3 floats (preferably brass) that isnt gonna break the bank?

The float may not be bad, on mine, the pivot pin the float hangs from had backed out of the pivot and let the float fall. Take the bowl off and check yours before you buy new floats.
