Hi guys, I am looking at a spare for my boat and came across a 85hp Chrysler charger, firstly, what is the charger?
From my manual the charger has a higher compression than the normal 85hp, does this sound right. I will be doing a compression test on it upon inspection, as they all say she is a "good running motor" but of cause I will do comp, it may be worth it just for spares, even though mine is a 4 cyl, I can still use the cdi, tilt trim, prop, lu is same but i would say diff ratio to my 100hp, so just for parts I will offer him $200 as he wants $350 but messaged me for $250. What's your thoughts guys come on spit em out to me

join the Valiant Car Club, go to one of their car shows and walk around saying " Hey Charger"...ok, wrong type of Charger, forgive me l'm really, really old

buy it mate, the LU and other bits are worth that, if it runs well it's a bonus

Re: 85hp chrysler charger

LOL thanks Jerryjerry, but after more consultation with the owner, I now find there is no tilt and trim just the valve body connected to the lines, no starter and no carbie cover (which isn't important). He can't tell me compression but has priced a set of rings, so sounds like to me between the lines, that comp is low. Think I might tread a bit easier with this, don't need a piece of junk in my garage.

ouch. already priced out rings? nah. need a runner, and can't check compression. Could buy it as a parts motor if it's right for your 100 and you have the room -- maybe $100 or so (don't know the market there, of course).

yea I offered $150 but he wouldn't take it and countered at $250, so I will go $200, I can't use the lower unit can I?

I am going to have a look at it tomorrow, it does have a starter, but no tilt trim motor, has vb not motor. I would like to ask though can I do a compression test by pull starting it or won't I get the revolutions needed??

best if you could use the electric starter (got a battery you can tote along?) Chance to test the starter too. Pull all the plugs -- supposed to ground them the leads as well. Screw in the tester and crank until the needle stops (a few seconds), then go on to the next one. Wouldn't hurt to have a little WD-40 or similar with you to squirt in a cylinder if compression seems low -- see if compression comes up. Would indicate a ring issue. Don't know about the lower unit switch -- sorry.

Yea spose I could take my battery, he probs has one, just not sure I want to drive 2 hours to spend $200 i don't really have atm. But you know there hard to find these days so parts are probably worth more than $200
