I was wondering if it would hurt anything to run your 1988 85hp Force without that black looking hood scoop thing that covers all 3 carbs. I guess it would be considered a breather of some sort. I didn't think it would bother anything, but then I see that there is a hose that comes from the block and goes to the breather thing.

I thought that if you were going to run without the breather thing, that you should perhaps plug off that hose that goes to the block. Am I correct? Or, totally lost, as usual?

Do I need this thing to be hooked back up ?

Carb hood serves little use.
Noise suppression is about it.
Hose is a drain hose to route any leaked fuel into the recirculation system.
Plug the hose and go boating.

:)

Thanks Roscoe. By the way, what was that stuff you were recommending to put on the inside of the hood, when you remove all that rotten foam, to help deaden the sound?

I remembered reading somewhere, but can't seem to find it.

Of course, I read where someone else suggested no insulation, to keep the packs cool. I'd sure like the quiet, as long as it didn't hurt nothing.

Wasn't me, but think I've seen neoprene suggested a few times.

Found this in another post:
""I also got some 3/8" neoprene off Ebay and glued it to the inside of top cover.
The neoprene dropped the noise significantly. I just glued it all over the inside of top cover. It's now possible to carry on a conversation with both motors running.
Wow. what a difference. It runs like new and it's quieter than new.""

So, are you gonna bring it over and show off your handywork on June 24th? We've got over 30 members/guests booked for the get-together.
