85hp force fuel leaking out of bottom carb

I have an 88-89 85hp force outboard motor I bought the boat used. I strarted having problems with it. I runs great on top end. After running for awhile it will shut off when i put it in gear and just try to idle around. I am also getting gas coming out of the bottom carb. I rebuilt the bottom carb already. Does anyone have any suggestions. I was told it might be the reeds. Took them out they don't look bad but how can you tell if they are. I am not a marine motor person, but I do have experience with atv and motorcycle motors but this is just got me puzzled any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Did you check to see if the bolt that holds the bowl worked itself loose?

Sounds like the float is not adjusted right on the lower carb. I believe the spec is 13/32 inch when carb is inverted which would be the bottom (now on top) of the float to the bottom edge of the carb. I had problems with mine when I went to this spec and ended up using 1/2 inch and it got rid of the leak. Either that or a bad needle or seat from the rebuild.

thanks will try that, there was also alot of gas laying in the air box on the carbs. I know the needle seat is good. I adjusted it last year maybe not enough. Not warm enough here yet to try it. thanks for help my need more later. Also looking for a trim cylinder for my power trim. Leaks of when sitting any Ideas on where to get one.
