I'm new to this group, in fact new to boating. I recently bought a 1986 16' Bayliner w/Force 85HP. It ran great the first 3 times out then last time it started acting up. I barely limped the boat back to shore. I tested for spark by removing the plugs and grounding each one and turning over the engine. Only #3 had spark. I brought Coils #1 and #2 in the shop for bench testing and #2 tested bad.<br />I read on this board that If I switch the blue and yellow wires from the stator to the first CDI that it will tell me if the problem is with the CDI or the stator. I just don't want to fry anything. Will this work? Also how can I tell what model the engine is? The book lists 3 models of the force 85 made in 1986.
