I did a search but didn't really find what I was looking for. This is the t/t pump off a 77 85hp johnson. I ain't messed with trim much. This stuff was off of the boat when i got it and I was told it worked (yeah right). I took the motor apart and it hadn't worked since the mid 90's probably. There are two outlets on the pump. I know one goes to the cylinders, where does the other go? I was thinking this was a self contained unit or something like that.

Also there is a wire coming off of the port cylinder, is that a limit sensor?

What goes in this hole?

Oh yeah, where can I find a motor to fit this pump? The tag on it says:

SAE J 1171
Prestolite 502
HYB 5001

I can't seem to find anything.

Looking at a manual there should be two lines going into the trim cylinder. One of them being the one in your bottom picture, the other is supposed to be at the bottom of the cylinder. As for the wire coming off, sounds like that is a trim sender.

The hole in the cylinder in the bottom pic don't have any threads, anyone know what kinda fitting it would take? I'm lost when it comes to hydrolics, I've never had to work on trim before.

Just went thru my whole system and its just like yours! The hole in the bottom pic is where the upper pump line goes into that cylinder. There is supposed to be a metal sleeve around that cylinder with a square nut inside the sleeve. When the hosefitting is tightened into the square nut it seats into the hole you have pictured. And yes there are two lines coming from the pump housing to the cylinder on that side....only one line to the opposite side. The other side has a tilt sending swith in it which is waht your talking about. Should be about halfway up the cylinder with one wire coming out. Good luck finding parts for this unit cuz I am having a heckuva time. When u do find the parts they want ten arms and legs for em.

The best place for the parts is a salvage yard. If you pick up a whole used assembly you can usually piece one good one together.

The Prestolite OEM pumps are available rebuilt as parts numbered 172850, 173564 or 173596.

You can buy new aftermarket replacement pumps made by Arco -#6208, Sierra - #18-6787 or Mallory - #9-18101.

Shop hard. The prices are all over the place. I found over $100. price difference in the Arco pump in my search.

I've decided to just run without trim for now. It's on a pontoon so I don't think it's going to make much difference anyway. I did lower my motor about an inch because I had to run with it trimmed all the way down or it would suck air. I ain't got to try it out yet, I hope it works.

The prestolite motors are expensive as heck. $500+. I had a similar problem with my Calco unit (part are rare and expensive) and I found a guy who has a patented adapter that allows the use of a new design, high-efficiency (and way cheaper) motor, like the ARCO 6206 I bought for $100, with the Calco and Prestolite units. It's an aluminum adapter plate with a steel shaft. Absolutely brilliant. I bought a Calco adapter, and it works flawlessly. I attached a couple of pics below. The adapter is the green-painted section. The guy can be reached at calcoguy@yahoo.com, and he sells the Calco units for $120. If you add the $120 for the adpater and the cost of the motor, it's still less than half what a rebuilt motor costs, and if you need to replace a motor later, it's cheap. Anyway, here are a couple of pics of the Calco unit I bought.
