My problem is when i first put boat in the water and go to start it the stater drags at first then turns over motor well. If motor does not start right away it then acts like the battery is dead. I have already purchased a brand new battery .I noticed when it does this that the ground cable gets extremely hot where it connects to the battery. If i jump it off with cables and another batteryit starts but when i shut it off to fish somwtimes it will spin right over to start other times it acts like the battery is dead.Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Stater ( stator ) and starter are two different things on an outboard.

Sounds like you mean the starter.

Sounds like your starter is getting old and weak and needs more power to spin it. It may be rebuildable.

In the mean time, check all wiring connections for corrosion and tightness.

Roscoe is right about the bad starter.

My 1989 125 Force had the EXACT same symptoms and I found a crack in the starter cap between the brushes. After I got a new cap with brushes (about $50), it cranks great every time (actually starting is another story....)
