86 150 coming up in reverse

I got a 86 150 johnson and when i put it in reverse it comes out of the water is there away to fix this

There should be a locking mechanism on the transom clamp.
Many of these mechanisms are adjustable. Look carefully at the clamp mechanism while picking up on the lower unit. You will then identify the mechanism and discern how it locks, and what adjustment there is. Hope this helps.
