Question for the wiser ones than me - I have an '86 Yamaha 150ProV that has low hours, but an accidental "bump" of the starter caused the crank to snap flush to the oil seal on top of the engine, by the flywheel. Upon inspection, it looks like there was a casting defect in the crank that had been manifesting for several years. (There is rust through the crack.)

The engine had fairly low hours prior to this.

Would it be possible to take it to a machine shop, and have them bevel-grind, then weld it? Is replacing the crank the only way to go?

Thanks!

Welding the crank means it needs to be torn apart and would still be very iffy. I doubt it would last very long.

Putting the nose back on in perfect radial alignment so timing isn't affected will be very difficult.

Crankshaft replacement is the only choice, I fear.
