Took out my plugs the other day and noticed a lot of carbon buildup on the plugs and inside the head. How and what do I do to de-carb this outboard? I want to get as much as possible out of it. I heard that you need to have the prop in a trash can because after you use the decarb spray your supposed to run the motor under load. Is this correct? Do you think I should just take it to a mechanic ($60 an hour), or attempt this myself.....Thanks Warren

Simply go to an OMC dealer, and get a bottle of carbon gaurd, use as directed. I don't believe in snake oil, but this stuff works.

Get you a can of sea foam deep creep and get the engine warm and spray it in the throat of the carb until it shuts down then remove spark plugs and spray cylinders full replace plugs and let set a couple hrs or over night put in water crank and run it at wot on the water until smoke clears out<br /> this is what i do and works fine I also run a little of sea foam in my fuel mix every two tanks and helps keep down carbon build up
