1986 28HP Johnson
I was running the motor in reverse at idle when it just up and quit. I ran the battery down trying to restart it with no luck. It fired twice for maybe a half second.
Pulled the carb fuel intake saw that fuel was flowing to the carb fine.
Removed carb, blew on the intake nozzle and determined it was clogged. The primer nozzle atop the carb was clogged as well.
Cleaned the carb out with carb cleaner and replaced all of the parts that came with the carb rebuild kit. Air is flowing thru both nozzles very well now.
After hooking the motor back up to the boat, I can?t get the flipping thing started. I can get it to run for about 2 seconds if I pull the plugs and spray some lubricated starting fluid in each cylinder.
I didn?t take note of the low speed needle location when I disassembled the carb, so I?ve been trying various locations still with no luck. Closed needle valve all the way, and opened ? turn, attempt to start, open another half turn etc? I would think that the engine would at least start, even if the needle valve is not in the ?proper? location, no?
Another odd thing. If I spray starting fluid in the carb it doesn?t start? Only when I remove the plugs and spray directly in the cylinder.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-JB
