86 baretta HELP !!

ok her's the story bought boat at auction mercruiser sn A679865 170 with power steerin an closed cooling system / baot had NO outdrive bolted on it. BUT inside the boat was a alpha 1 drive with the sticke 4.3L on it ?? so I'm asuming it DIDN'T come from this boat! cause title says 170 eng. looks to be factory can ANYONE tell me WHAT outdrive SHOULD be on this boat?? OR could I run the outdrive marked 4.3L ?

1.86/1.84 is used for that 4 cylinder.The upper gears may have been changed in your case to match the engine.May have to pull the gears and count the teeth.

so they COULD have took a set of 1.86/or1.84 gears an put them in the 4.3L outdrive to be used on this motor ?? now are we talking top gears ?? if so can I pull of the top cover to count the teeth?

The 4.3 used the same 1.84 gear ratio.

i looked at the outdrive today on the right side it has 1.81R then the # OF701414 however it does NOT have a brass shifter tho it DOES have the large mounting flanges for the hydrolic cylinders BUT you can see that someone has cut them down !!
