ok guys my transom is history !!!! so i was thinking of removing the cap and redoing the transom and puttin the thing back on!! here are my Questions....

1) the cap is help on by rivets form outside on the bump rail gonna drill them out and pop the top! but so iah ve to use SS rivets or will aluminum work? and is the cap sealed on there?

2 the transom is a 3 piece deal... ok so is there the main center and 2 outside pieces? if so can i make the transom bigger now say 1.5 inches so if i want a bigger engine (125) it will carry the load and if yes will the cap fit back on or were they different from 85 to 125 motors?

Cap removal is a big project. I just cut the top of the center transom section from the splashwell. There were no knees to the stringers, so I put in s/s Gussets (knees) and covered the open transom cut w/an aluminum cap and sealed all edges w/ 3M 4200. Solid as a rock.

cool i have seen that done and i have seen the cap off way... i really dont want to split a good fit if i dont have to!!!!!! i guess the key is to not cut into the outter hull or the inner?
