86 Bayliner 21 Footer

I have an 86 Bayliner with a 4 cylinder Volvo motor and a Volvo Penta outdrive.I am starting to do work on it and may need some parts but not sure exactly what motor it is.The Hin number is BIJC69CAE686 and the engine serial number is 4179.I was wondering if anyone knew what it is or can steer me in the right diection to decode these.Thanks for any help.

The HIN number doesn't help us, however, if you were to call Bayliner, they can tell you what engine and drive was installed in it at the factory. The Volvo number (4179) that you posted, is not a serial number.

that is the seial number the title says for the motor

Well, your title may say that, but a Volvo serial number is 10 numbers long, not 4.
Look the engine over for a metal tag with the serial number and model number. May be one on the port side of the engine.

86 Volvo I believe is a 131hp with a 275 drive.
On the sterndrive is a cover.Any numbers on it?Might be a 270 or 275 drive.
Post some pics of the drive and the exhaust.Some pics of the motor might help too.J

No Volvo 4 cylinder had 131 hp, there was a model number used in 85 and 86 that was called an AQ131, but there was also an AQ125 and a 145, 151 and ........
Allow him to determine which one he really has instead of telling him what you think he might have by reading old posts.

Worked at a Bayliner dealer.Installed a couple hundred drives on a lot of boats.They had AQ125 through Aq131 with 270 and 275 drives.What older post did I read to get that info?

hey, i have an 86 2150 and was in the same boat (groan) as you!

call bayliner at 877-861-6494 and give them your HIN and they can email you the owner's manual for free.

i can't find my electronic copy anymore, or i would send you mine. from what i can remember (according to my owner's manual), the 2150 only came with an aq225 or an aq1...something for the 4 cylinder.

Hi guys thanks for all your help but the serial number is 7897004179 and it has a 275 outdrive and will any other motor work in case I have a problem with the engine there may be one. Thanks

Thanks Don it does say 131 Horsepower on the title so it is prolly the AQ131.Thanks for everyones help.but will be checking the ads for parts.
