Ok lets start off by saying to all those bayliner haters out there; I've heard your points and they are duely noted. I like the way the boat looks and im enduring this project to enjoy the boat. Alright now that the disclaimer is out there heres what i have, 86 Bayliner that i have already started tearing apart hoping that i dont need to tear it ALL apart. My concern so far is the bulkhead in front of the ski locker. It was rotted out and some work with a dremel got the pieces out. Does that bulkhead serve as a structural piece that needs to be replaced in one shot, or can i just replace the center section that was rotted out? I think that this boat was parked on a reverse incline with no cover since the front of the boat is in worse shape than the rear. Ill try to post pictures of what i have so far.

P.s. I do realize the ski locker floor has to come out but i havent gotten that far yet.

Ok so i apologize for coming off so harsh but this project is raising my blood pressure every day. So with that said any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I can see in the pics, there is more problems than the bulkhead. You have rot in the deck and some more rot in the stringers.
I would pull up the deck and inspect all the stringers and the transom.
Just my 2 cents.
Some of the experts should jump in and help.

For the age of your boat it has surprisingly held its value pretty well. (Not a dig on Bayliner).

So you have some room before the cost of your restoration reaches the point of diminished return.

Before you decide on the scope of your project, you might consider: How long are you planing on keeping this boat? What is your resto budget? I assume you have a place to tear it apart, access to basic tools, and some friends willing to help for beer.
How soft is the deck above the bulkhead? It appears that the primary purpose of the wood there is to support the deck as it was not glassed in.

If you just wanted to get a few more seasons out of the 26 year old boat, and the deck is acceptable you could go with an extremely cheap fix - Get a couple tubes of floor joist adhesive and a calking gun - pack the gap around the bulkhead - screw in a 1"X2" strip of wood along the top of the bulkhead to give the floor more area to rest on - and paint all the wood you can reach with some exterior house paint that is 1/2 off because color mix was screwed up. - Materials $30

If you plan on keeping the boat a while and want to replace the bulkhead - (That bulkhead must be just aft of the windshield walk through in your bow rider) You will need to remove a section of the deck. I'm not familiar with Bayliner construction, but I suspect that the deck is supported by a series of plywood bulkhead structures like this one. If this is so, cutting just a section by making your cuts on center above a joist would not be an option. You could make your cuts just to the side of the plywood supports and then attach a strip of 1X2 or 2X2 for support when time to lay deck back down. You may end up pulling and replacing the entire deck and several support bulkheads if the bow area is also bad. - Materials with carpet $300

Thanks for the input guys. I am thinking of an inbetween resto where i planned on just replacing what needed to be and fiberglassing all the wood again. You made a good point banshee that the bulkhead wasn't heavily fiberglassed and i think im going to investigate the rest of it on each side and see if its worth tearing up solid floor. Any other tips or tricks i should know about bc this is my first boat. Im not new to resto projects at all so i know what can be involved in a project.

What motor does she have? Have you confirmed the motor mounts and transom are rot free? Core Samples???

Ya those are still good. I was able to access the very bottom of the transom from the drain and even though its stained with oil its still very solid. Oh did i mention i got this boat from some tweakers that just emptied the oil into the engine bay? It has the volvo penta 225d with the 280 outdrive. Havent started it yet but it does turn over and all the oils are good with no metal flakes. Also banshee the value of the boat on that site is slightly higher with all the options i entered. Low retail was around 4500. I got it for a lot less so i feel pretty good about what i will be investing in it.

If you are satisfied that the critical areas are good then may be it's time to switch directions and focus on getting it back water ready. You may have dodged an expensive rebuild that could have easily ended up keeping the boat out of action this season. The NADA site starts out with the bare-bones model of anything and then you attach upgrades. The site is used by dealers to determine trade-in value and banks for loans(basically same as Kelly blue-book). I have dealer/wholesale/dismantle/rebuild licenses and use the site to determine salvage values for bidding on cars/trucks/boats as well as for vehicles I sell retail.
