recently did work on motor ran good on land took it to the water and ran great for about an hour.then while at wot it bogged down as if it were starving for fuel and died.difficult to restart unless i wait about 20 min.also when i do start he has trouble idleing without opening the throttle a bit further than i shoudl need to.fuel is fresh, new plugs, new fuel lines, good spark, clean carbs. not a tank vent as it is of the continusly open type. checked diaphram in pump.no visible damage possibly a pin hole. looked a bit streched plan to replace.possibly a bad gasket somewhere and sucking air.fuel air mixture?ideas?need to get runnig soon.i am running a bass tourny in mid aug and need to have it running reliably.

The diaphram is probably your problem. But run a comression test. Poor compression means poor fuel pumping anyhow.
If you've had the carbs off, replace the mounting gasket with a new one. I would make my own rather than buying a complete carb kit just to get these two silly gaskets. But the motor will run like crap if you attempt to reuse them. Trust me on that one. It happens every time I try to cheat by using the old ones. :)

12footer
thanks for the info.I have done a compression test. right after i replaced the piston. all is good there.i am quilty of leaving the old gasket on the carbs though.would a corke gasket material work here or should i stay with felt?still planning to replace the diaphram.as soon as i can get to the parts store.thanks again.
